Promotional Mugs


Promotional mugs work in a slightly different way to other promotional products. And when you realize exactly why that is, you'll discover an unmined opportunity to leave your competitors in the dust in the battle for your customers' hearts and minds.

Here's an interesting question:

Now most workers aren't particularly attached to the mugs they use for their coffee, especially if they're the run-of-the-mill kind found in most office kitchens, but they do have a major physiological and psychological response to the drink that those mugs contain.

For some, it's a feeling that goes something like this: Aaahhh.

For those who like their coffee strong, it's more like Wham, Zing, Kaboom or Pow!

Either way, it's exactly the feeling they crave at that moment.

What if you could associate that feeling to your company?

Research into the way the mind links two unconnected subjects suggests that strong associations are most easily formed when the accompanying feelings are intense. In fact, the more intense the emotions, the stronger the resulting connection.




How strong is that sense of well being for a person who's just had that first gulp of coffee of the working day? The feeling may not last, but for those first few seconds, it's there.

What would happen if that person was your customer, and a few seconds after he drank his coffee and let the good feeling wash over him, his eyes swept over your company's name imprinted on his coffee mug?

Every day, with each repetition, your business name would become associated with that great feeling the coffee invokes in your customer's mind and body.

This is in addition to the main purpose of all promotional products:

To imprint the name of your company in your customer's subconscious mind as a result of his seeing it several times a day.

The beauty of this process is in its simplicity.

The reason this imprinting takes place is precisely because it's the result of an unconscious observation. Your customer isn't actually paying attention to reading your name on his promotional mug. Instead his subconscious mind takes note of it beneath the surface of his attention, and it therefore encounters no resistance to being implanted in his memory.

Next time your customer needs the products or services you supply, your name will come quickly to mind, and your promotional coffee mug sitting in plain view on his desk will ensure that your contact details are right where they're needed.

To take advantage of this natural propensity of the mind to create unconscious links, you need to keep two points in mind.

  1. Make sure your promotional mugs are attractive so your customer will be inclined to use them rather than replace them with a favorite mug from home.

  2. Give your promotional mugs to those people in the company with the power to order your products or services.
